Full Video : N1508082_This kind man found a poor abandoned dog on the street and adopted it . #dog #animals #rescue #story The One-Off Mazda ProtegĂ© That Defied the Rules—Literally The bright-orange 2000 Mazda ProtegĂ©, born from a forgotten concept-car mold and a tuner’s obsessive vision. Motor Trend Archive, updated 2026 Orange. It is both an adjective and a noun. A descriptor and the described. Two things occupying the exact same space in physical reality, taunting the space-time continuum and threatening the very fabric of the universe. It’s not possible! I shout at the cosmos. Shield your ears! Shield your ears! Hhhhhhh! John Malozsak. The proprietor of Ballistic Unlimited, a company that covers the globe in stylish apparel. Chances are, if you wear clothes—if you, like a sheep being herded to slaughter, have joined the bandwagon of “wearing clothes”—then you have probably worn something made by Ballistic Unlimited. John has been entrenched in the automotive scene for over 15 years, and now, as a successful business owner, he is taking his compact-performance passion to heights previously unimaginable. Except now you know about it, because this 2000 Mazda ProtegĂ© is too exceptional to keep hidden in the shadows. The Four-Week Forge Four weeks. That is the exact timeframe John and his colleagues spent piecing together this Mazda. The Super Street Magazine team struggles to print a single issue in four weeks, let alone fabricate the sophisticated audio and video installations inside this ProtegĂ© with their own hands. But with a Kenwood sound system as advanced as his, you, too, would insist on performing the installation yourself, raving, stamping your feet, knocking over fine china, and shouting profanities at the sun. Speaker enclosures act as islands of sound within the doors. The true mastery of the craftsmanship is most evident in the trunk. Here, a Kenwood monitor and wave after wave of custom-built stereo enclosures greet the viewer. Four dB subwoofers emerge from the depths, like a tidal wave of orange juice—a Vitamin C shore at low tide. (Get it? C-shore!) Bodywork: A Masterpiece from the Ashes Do you admire this body? We certainly do. The body kit adorning this ProtegĂ© is one of only a few in existence. Do you love the look and wish to own one yourself? Unfortunately, you are out of luck. The kit originates from a plaster mold that Mazda produced solely for a concept car. When John discovered the mold collecting dust in the Mazda archive, he salvaged it, vanquished the evil guardians, and managed to squeeze one final kit from the delicate structure. The mold has long since cracked and crumbled into dust, but the kit continues to live in glory on John’s car, serving as a constant reminder to the rest of you ProtegĂ© owners. Fancy the rear wing? A similar story. It originates from an early MP3 concept car, making it as rare as a genuine gold nugget discovered in your garden.
Entertainment Overload: Show, Don’t Just Tell Party time. You might have encountered this car at the Hot Import Nights event. You might have seen it cruising the Super Street Tour. We have. And we approve. Ooh yeah. You may have also noticed the Mazda logos subtly glowing within the seats. This breathtaking effect is achieved using “experimental” fiber optics sourced from Federal Mogul. Finally, it appears that technology stripped from downed spacecraft is being considered for consumer applications. It looks incredible, doesn’t it? It’s a gourmet burger of a project. The fiber optics also illuminate the door panels and the center console. Talk about shedding a little “light” on the situation. Even under the hood, the celebration doesn’t stop; take a moment to admire the polished intake manifold and valve cover, as well as the candy-blue powder coating. The Future of Ballistic Unlimited The future. Is it possible to surpass the awe-inspiring, electric-boogaloo–inducing 2000 Mazda ProtegĂ© captured forever within the prison of photography? Well, John is certainly determined to try, this time with a Mazda ProtegĂ©5. Expect to see extensive use of top-secret Mazda accessories and more of that signature Ballistic ingenuity. Orange you excited? A Masterpiece in Orange: When Obsession Met Mazda’s Hidden Past (Updated 2026) The year is 2002. In the vibrant, competitive world of Japanese import tuning, one name has been buzzing with quiet intensity: Ballistic Unlimited. John Malozsak, the founder and visionary behind this burgeoning lifestyle and apparel company, has long been synonymous with street-ready performance, aggressive stances, and bold aesthetics. Yet, despite his growing presence in the aftermarket scene, Malozsak harbored a secret ambition: a project so ambitious, so uniquely tailored to his vision, that it required digging into the history of the very manufacturer he admired. This quest led him not to a parts catalog, but to the hallowed grounds of Mazda’s archives, where he discovered the lost potential of the 2000 Mazda ProtegĂ©. What emerged from this obsessive pursuit wasn’t merely a modified street car; it was a statement. A bright, aggressive, unashamedly orange declaration that the Mazda Protegé—often overlooked in favor of sportier siblings like the RX-7 or Miata—was a canvas worthy of world-class customization. This wasn’t a build that relied on readily available kits or mainstream bolt-ons. This was a custom 2000 Mazda ProtegĂ© project born from a forgotten concept-car mold and a tuner’s obsession. The Genesis: Unearthing a Legend
Malozsak’s journey to creating this iconic orange Mazda ProtegĂ© began with a chance encounter and a stroke of luck. While navigating the labyrinthine corridors of Mazda’s research and development department, he stumbled upon a relic—a plaster mold that had been created for an early concept car. This mold was intended to showcase the potential evolution of the ProtegĂ©, but like many ideas that gestate within the minds of automotive engineers, it never reached production. It sat dormant, a forgotten artifact of automotive history. John, recognizing the unique lines and aggressive contours of the design, knew he had found something extraordinary. He negotiated with Mazda, securing permission to utilize the mold, and set about breathing life into the abandoned design. The result was a custom 2000 Mazda ProtegĂ© body kit that transformed the humble sedan into a performance machine, complete with deep side skirts, aggressive fender flares, and a rear spoiler that hinted at the raw power contained within. The Aesthetics: A Symphony of Color and Light The defining feature of Malozsak’s creation is, without question, the vibrant orange Pearl paint. This was no ordinary orange; it was a multi-stage paint job that incorporated a glass-bead topcoat, giving it a shimmering, liquid-metal appearance under the bright lights of the car show circuit. The candy-coated headlights and taillights further enhanced the custom look, creating a seamless, integrated aesthetic that captivated audiences at Hot Import Nights and the Super Street Tour. But the visual innovation didn’t stop at the exterior. Malozsak installed APC Sport mirrors and a louvered hood by Sir Michael’s, adding a layer of sophistication and performance-oriented styling. For a touch of modern flair, he incorporated blue undercar neon by Matt Strange, creating a striking contrast against the luminous orange finish. Lettering by Modern Image Signworks added the finishing touch, proclaiming the car’s identity as a Ballistic Unlimited creation. The Performance: More Than Just a Pretty Face While the orange Mazda ProtegĂ© certainly turned heads with its stunning aesthetics, Malozsak was no stranger to performance. This was, after all, a tuning build for a Super Street Magazine feature, and the car had to live up to its aggressive looks. Under the hood, the 1.8L four-cylinder engine was enhanced with a Monster Flew intake and air cleaner, Bosal after-cat exhaust, and Vitek ignition wires and vacuum lines. For an extra kick of power, the car was equipped with a Nitrous Express 50hp wet kit, providing a significant boost when needed. An Optima battery ensured reliable power delivery, while a Jet Performance computer upgrade fine-tuned the engine’s output. The custom 2000 Mazda ProtegĂ© was fitted with Intrax springs for a lower, more aggressive stance, while Axis Speed-Six wheels (19×8.25) wrapped in Pirelli P7000 tires (215/35-19) provided the grip to handle the extra power. The Sound: An Audiophile’s Dream Malozsak’s attention to detail extended to the car’s Kenwood stereo system, one of the most elaborate audio setups of its time. The system featured a Kenwood P907 head unit (audio/video), an LZ 700 rear monitor, and a KAC-X501 subamplifier. Four KFC-XW100B subwoofers delivered earth-shattering bass, while KFC-XR60P mid/tweet combos ensured crystal-clear highs. The entire system was wired with Pure Platinum F3 wiring and cables, delivering pristine sound quality. The Interior: A Luxury Cocoon
The interior of this orange 2000 Mazda Protegé was transformed into a luxurious cocoon. The car was fitted with
