The Hondas of Wekfest New Jersey 2026: A Showcase of JDM Mastery and Tuning Excellence
As a veteran automotive enthusiast with a decade immersed in the heart of Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) culture, I’ve attended my share of prestigious events. Yet, Wekfest USA consistently stands apart. Having experienced my first Wekfest USA just two years prior, I returned to Edison, New Jersey, in the crisp autumn of 2026, eager to witness the latest evolution in this enduring celebration of Japanese performance engineering. Established by Kenneth Li in 2008, Wekfest has matured into a foundational cornerstone of the global tuning car community. It is renowned for its strict focus on authentic JDM and import culture, and for consistently showcasing some of the most exceptional builds in the country.
This year, the New Jersey iteration of Wekfest presented a notable shift in its curated lineup. A distinct trend emerged: Hondas unequivocally dominated the show floor. For every Toyota, Nissan, or Porsche thoughtfully displayed, it seemed there were several Hondas—each one a testament to the sheer depth, versatility, and vibrant diversity of the brand’s aftermarket tuning scene. This saturation of H-badge vehicles made Wekfest New Jersey 2026 a veritable Mecca for enthusiasts of Honda and Acura performance.

TheLone NSX: The Apex of Honda’s Performance Pedigree
At Wekfest New Jersey 2026, a singular Acura NSX from 1992, owned by Marby Enriquez since 2014, served as the focal point of the show. This iconic machine perfectly illustrates the breathtaking transformation of Honda’s revolutionary mid-engine sports car into a razor-sharp, purpose-built time attack competitor. Following an initial experience with the NSX in its factory configuration, Enriquez embarked on a rigorous and comprehensive metamorphosis, driven by a singular goal: to elevate both the car’s raw performance and its visual presence.
The build now features a striking blue wrap that commands attention immediately upon entry into the venue. Beneath the hood, the precision engineering continues with a classic Comptech Whipple supercharger, ensuring reliable boost delivery. A Walbro 255 high-flow fuel pump ensures proper fuel delivery under load, while a custom snorkel intake, inspired by the Japan-exclusive NSX-R GT, feeds cool, dense air directly into the hungry powertrain. The presence of a carbon-fiber hood and a functional air scoop immediately draws the eye, channeling high-pressure air into the engine bay and signaling the serious performance upgrades lurking beneath the surface.

When the car was strapped to a dynamometer, it delivered a formidable 380 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque at the wheels. This raw output is effectively managed by a set of KW Clubsport coilovers, which provide exceptional ride quality and track-ready handling. For grip, the NSX rides on lightweight Volk Racing TE37 wheels, wrapped in sticky Toyo Proxes R888R tires. Stopping power is handled by a high-performance StopTech brake system, equipped with Hawk Performance pads for fade-resistant braking. A large Voltex Type 4/5 GT wing ensures stability at high speeds, keeping the chassis planted firmly during hard cornering.
Even though the car has undergone further modifications since its initial feature in a 2020 magazine publication—now sporting white wheels and a more subtle front spoiler—Enriquez’s NSX remains a stunning build. It stands as a showcase of the incredible precision and engineering craftsmanship that go into creating these automotive masterpieces. For Honda purists and enthusiasts alike, this NSX is a rare and exciting sight.

N-BOX: An Unexpected Icon of Japanese Automotive Design
The Honda N-BOX represents one of the many “kei cars” (kei jidōsha) that Honda has produced over the years. These are small, compact vehicles meticulously designed to comply with Japan’s strict national size and engine displacement regulations. Even the largest kei cars remain considerably smaller than a Mazda MX-5 Miata, with their engine displacements typically capped at approximately 660 cubic centimeters (cc).
This specific N-BOX fully embraces its unique, boxy minivan-inspired form, offering a truly distinctive blend of Japanese practicality and quirky character. Finished in the sportier “Custom” trim level, it features an assertive front fascia and a boxy silhouette that immediately recalls Honda’s previous Element crossover. A standout detail that caught the attention of many attendees was its license plate, which boldly declared “K24 NA.” Whether or not the owner successfully managed to stuff a version of Honda’s popular 2.4-liter K24 inline-four engine—nearly four times the size of the stock N-BOX powertrain—under its hood remains a mystery, but the car definitely stood out as a uniquely Japanese creation showcased on American soil at Wekfest New Jersey 2026.

Vehicles like this N-BOX perfectly highlight the diversity and creativity that define Wekfest USA. Alongside the curious kei car, attendees were treated to other unexpected builds, including a lowered Honda Element with a vibrantly colored blue interior and an oversized rear speaker, as well as a pair of modified Acura MDXs. These luxury SUVs are rare sights at JDM enthusiast gatherings, underscoring the broad range of modified models available to attendees at Wekfest 2026.

Auto Salon Contender: The Apex of Precision and Purpose
This Honda S2000 exemplifies precision engineering and purpose-built focus, showcasing a build executed with remarkable attention to detail and OEM-level fitment. Under the hood, its F22C1 engine is enhanced with a carefully curated selection of high-end components from Mugen, ASM, and HKS, crowned by a distinctive Jun Motorsports valve cover.

The meticulous approach to this build extends far beyond the engine bay. The car rides on lightweight Advan Racing RS-DF wheels, which are perfectly complemented by high-performance Renegade brakes, a Voltex rear wing, and an ASM steering wheel. Each element was chosen to balance performance capabilities with premium aesthetics. Among the many Honda S2000s displayed at Wekfest 2025, this particular example stood out as the most complete and cohesive build. It is a machine that would feel equally at home on a display stand at the prestigious Tokyo Auto Salon as it would be on the track, tearing up the asphalt during a spirited track day.
Other visual highlights from the event included immaculately crafted scale model cars displayed in front of their full-size counterparts, as well as a liveried-up Motocompacto electric scooter parked strategically next to a sixth-generation Civic hatchback. This specific EG hatch was notable for its original 1960s Honda emblem on its rear—the same wide-top “H” design that served as the inspiration for the brand’s new 0 Series electric vehicle logo.

Civic Hatchback: A Powerful Partnership with Prelude DNA
Amidst all the wild engine swaps, glowing LEDs, and aggressive aerodynamic enhancements, one humble silver Civic hatchback stood out, not primarily for its looks but for what was nestled beneath its hood: the only H-series engine we observed at the show. The H-series, often overshadowed by the legendary B-series, served as Honda’s workhorse of choice, powering iconic models such as the Prelude Type S and Accord Euro R. Witnessing an H22 motor swapped into a modest EG generation Civic hatchback was both rare and refreshing, offering a glimpse into a performance combination that defies typical tuner trends.

The Unicorn: Rare Gems and Hidden Treasures
And finally, the crown jewel of the Honda displays at Wekfest New Jersey 2026. Positioned near the far end of the show floor was a pristine Championship White FD2 Civic Type R, but alongside it sat something even rarer: the Mugen RR.
Regarded by many enthusiasts as the ultimate Type R, all 300 Mugen RR units were sold out within approximately 10 minutes of their release, with 299 remaining in Japan and a single car exported to the United States. This particular example was later imported to the U.S. and features factory Mugen camshafts, ECU tuning, and an upgraded exhaust, boosting output to a potent 237 horsepower. High-end carbon-fiber bumpers, an aluminum hood, and the signature 18-inch Mugen wheels reduce the overall curb weight and sharpen performance across the board, creating a machine that prioritizes speed and precision above all else.
The Mugen RR is a true masterpiece of automotive engineering, embodying the pinnacle of Honda’s engineering passion. Positioned next to the FD2, it becomes clear that while the FD2 may captivate with its aesthetics, the
