Two years removed from my first intimate exposure to the globally renowned Wekfest USA, I recently had the distinct pleasure of immersing myself once again in yet another unparalleled showcase of Japanese performance legends that have come to define this enduring marque event. Established by the visionary Kenneth Li in the year 2008, Wekfest has evolved into an indispensable pillar within the international automotive modification community, distinguished by its rigorous dedication to JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) engineering and aftermarket culture, and consistently attracting some of the most impeccably executed projects from across the continent and beyond.
The current year’s Wekfest installment, strategically located in Edison, New Jersey, bore witness to a palpable shift in the character of the showcase. The Honda contingent indisputably dominated the exhibition floor. For every Toyota, Nissan, or Porsche that graced the venue, there appeared to be several premium Honda variants, each demonstrating the extraordinary depth, breadth, and diversity that characterizes the tuning and modification landscape surrounding this iconic Japanese manufacturer.
As a lifelong devotee of the Honda marque, I found myself navigating exceptionally familiar waters. What follows is a comprehensive recapitulation of some of the most distinguished examples that commanded the unwavering attention of the assembled audience and myself at Wekfest USA 2026, each representing the transcendent passion, meticulous precision, and unparalleled engineering excellence that continue to define the enduring essence of this world-class exhibition.
The Lone NSX: The undisputed Crown of the Honda Hierarchy at Wekfest
This exceptionally preserved 1992 Acura NSX, a machine that has resided in the stewardship of its devoted owner, Marby Enriquez, since the year 2014, serves as a quintessential testament to the profound metamorphosis of Honda’s legendary mid-engine halo sports car into a purpose-built, apex-hunting time attack machine. Having initially experienced the NSX in its pristine factory guise, Enriquez embarked upon a comprehensive and meticulous transformation initiative aimed at elevating both its inherent performance capabilities and its visual presence on the road. The vehicle now proudly sports a striking and assertive royal blue wrap and is equipped with a highly sought-after Comptech Whipple supercharger system, a robust Walbro 255 high-flow fuel pump, and a distinctive snorkel-style air intake system inspired by the ultra-exclusive, Japan-only NSX-R GT model. A strategically placed carbon-fiber hood and a functional air scoop immediately capture the eye, effectively channeling cool, dense ambient air directly into the heart of the engine bay.
The vehicle’s performance metrics registered an impressive 380 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque at the wheels, an output further supported by an advanced KW Clubsport coil-over suspension system, titanium chassis bracing, renowned Volk Racing TE37 forged wheels, high-performance Toyo Proxes R888R competition tires, and a formidable StopTech braking system equipped with Hawk Performance racing pads. A large, functional Voltex Type 4/5 GT wing ensures superior high-speed stability and aerodynamic downforce during aggressive circuit driving.
Although the NSX has undergone even further evolution since its feature in a prominent automotive magazine back in 2020 (the vehicle now boasts a sophisticated white wheel finish and a considerably more subtle front spoiler design), Enriquez’s NSX remains a truly arresting and inspirational build. It functions as a compelling showcase of the miraculous degree of precision, intricate craftsmanship, and dedicated artistry that are poured into the creation of these truly amazing and evocative vehicles.
The N-BOX: A Bold Statement of Japanese Kei Car Ingenuity
The Honda N-BOX represents one of the many innovative examples of the kei class of micro-vehicles that Honda has strategically produced over the course of its storied history—small-format, remarkably efficient automobiles meticulously engineered to adhere to Japan’s strict, government-mandated size regulations and engine displacement restrictions. Even the largest contemporary kei cars remain smaller in dimensions than a modern Mazda Miata, with their engine displacement capacities typically capped at approximately 660 cubic centimeters.
This particular N-BOX iteration fully embraces its bold, boxy minivan-inspired silhouette, offering a truly unique and distinctive fusion of practicality, functionality, and character. Finished in the sportier and more aggressive Custom trim, it features a commanding front fascia and a unique, tall, boxy profile that serves as a striking homage to Honda’s pioneering Element model. A particularly noteworthy and highly distinctive detail is its custom license plate, which prominently reads “K24 NA.” Whether or not the meticulous owner has actually succeeded in integrating a version of Honda’s iconic 2.4-liter K24 inline-four engine, a powertrain nearly four times larger than the stock N-BOX unit, under its compact hood remains a subject of intrigue, but the vehicle indisputably stood out as a uniquely Japanese creation proudly displayed on American soil.
Vehicles such as this remarkable N-BOX perfectly highlight the extraordinary diversity, unwavering creativity, and boundless innovation that truly define the Wekfest experience. Alongside the iconic kei car, the show featured numerous other unexpected builds, including a lowered Honda Element showcasing a vibrant blue interior and an oversized rear speaker system, as well as a pair of modified Acura MDX models. These rare sightings underscore the exceptionally broad spectrum of meticulously modified models that graced the exhibition floor.
The Auto Salon Contender: A Masterclass in Automotive Refinement
This immaculate Honda S2000 represents the pinnacle of precision engineering and purposeful execution, showcasing a complete build executed with an unparalleled level of detail and attention. Under the hood, its potent F22 engine has been judiciously enhanced with a curated selection of premium components sourced from industry leaders such as Mugen, ASM, and HKS, all crowned by a striking and distinctive Jun factory valve cover.
The meticulous approach to excellence continues well beyond the confines of the engine bay. The car rides on highly respected Advan wheels and features a high-performance Renegade braking system, a sophisticated Voltex rear wing, and a premium ASM steering wheel. Each component has been carefully chosen to achieve a harmonious balance between high-level performance and sophisticated aesthetic appeal. Among the multitude of S2000 models present at Wekfest 2025, this particular example stood out as the most complete and cohesive build in its entirety, a high-performance machine that would feel equally at home perched upon a prestigious Tokyo Auto Salon display stand as it would be carving up the demanding apexes of a high-speed racing circuit.
Other visually memorable highlights included exquisite scale model cars artfully displayed in front of their full-size, real-world counterparts and a fully liveried Motocompacto electric scooter elegantly parked beside a sixth-generation Honda Civic. This particular Civic was uniquely distinguished by its inclusion of an original 1960s Honda emblem on its rear fascia—the very same broad-top “H” design that served as the foundational inspiration for the brand’s new 0 Series electric vehicle identity.
Civic Hatchback with a Prelude Heart: Pure Functional Ingenuity
Amidst the dazzling array of highly customized vehicles and the ambient glow of abundant LED lighting, one particularly understated silver Civic emerged as a visual standout. Its unique distinction did not stem from its aesthetic modifications, but rather from what lay hidden beneath its hood: the only H-series engine that we encountered at the entire exhibition. The H-series engine, often relegated to the shadow of the legendary B-series, served as Honda’s torquey workhorse that powered renowned models such as the Prelude Type S and the Accord Euro R. Witnessing an engine swap involving the H22 model into a modest, early generation EG Civic hatchback was both exceptionally rare and incredibly refreshing to behold. Not only has the owner of this meticulously maintained Civic owned this EG generation model for over two full decades, but the H22 engine currently residing within its chassis has also occupied that same space for nearly the exact same duration. This build was never intended to be an ostentatious display of automotive flash; rather, it was a pure and unadulterated embodiment of functional engineering excellence.
The Unicorn: The Pinnacle of Performance and Rarity
Finally, at the far end of the bustling Wekfest exhibition floor, we encountered the undisputed crown jewel among the Honda vehicles: a pristine Championship White FD2 Honda Civic Type R. However, positioned directly alongside it was something even more extraordinarily rare and valuable: a Mugen RR model.
Widely regarded as the ultimate production variant of the Civic Type R, all 300 units of the limited-edition Mugen RR sold out within a remarkable span of roughly just 10 minutes upon their initial release. Subsequently, 299 of these ultra-rare machines remained exclusively within the Japanese domestic market, with a single solitary unit being strategically exported to Malaysia. This specific remarkable example was subsequently imported to the United States and has been tastefully upgraded with Mugen camshafts, specialized ECU tuning, and a high-performance exhaust system, bringing its power output to a robust 237 horsepower. Additional performance-enhancing modifications include lightweight carbon-fiber bumpers, a lightweight aluminum hood, and the iconic 18-inch Mugen forged wheels, all designed to further reduce overall vehicle weight and sharpen performance across the entire powerband.
The Mugen RR is a truly exceptional and rare masterpiece of engineering, embodying the very essence of Honda’s passionate pursuit of performance excellence.
