The automotive landscape of 2026 continues its exhilarating transformation, characterized by a resurgence of enthusiasm for performance-oriented vehicles and a growing recognition of the legacy of JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) engineering. Against this backdrop, Wekfest USA has firmly established itself as a cornerstone event, a global celebration of the most meticulously crafted import vehicles, with a particular focus on Honda and Acura. From the legendary mid-engine NSX to the sleeper efficiency of the N-BOX, the 2026 New Jersey stop of the Wekfest tour offered a panoramic view of the ingenuity and passion that define the modern tuning scene. Having followed the trajectory of Wekfest since its inception in 2008, I have witnessed firsthand its evolution from a grassroots gathering of enthusiasts into an internationally recognized platform for showcasing automotive excellence. Established by Kenneth Li, Wekfest has become synonymous with precision, craftsmanship, and a commitment to preserving and advancing the heritage of Japanese performance cars. The 2026 New Jersey event, held in Edison, reflected a notable shift in the show’s offerings. Hondas, in particular, dominated the floor, with each build representing a unique expression of performance philosophy and aesthetic vision. As a lifelong Honda enthusiast, I found myself in familiar territory. The diversity of the vehicles on display was truly astonishing, ranging from purpose-built track machines to the most subtle of modifications. This article serves as a comprehensive exploration of some of the standout examples that captured the attention of attendees and industry experts, each representing the passion and precision that continue to define Wekfest USA. The Lone NSX: A Masterpiece of Time Attack Engineering The 1992 Acura NSX owned by Marby Enriquez is a testament to the evolutionary journey of Honda’s iconic mid-engine sports car into a purpose-built time attack machine. Enriquez, who has owned the car since 2014, has undertaken a comprehensive transformation aimed at enhancing both performance and presence. The NSX, a vehicle often referred to as “Japan’s Ferrari,” has long been admired for its lightweight aluminum chassis, mid-engine layout, and high-revving V6 engine. Enriquez’s build takes this legendary foundation and pushes it to its absolute limits. The car is finished in a striking blue wrap that commands attention from across the show floor. Under the hood, the NSX features a classic Comptech Whipple supercharger, a Walbro 255 fuel pump, and a snorkel intake inspired by the rare Japan-exclusive NSX-R GT. A carbon-fiber hood and functional scoop immediately draw attention, channeling cool air directly into the engine bay. The visual impact of the build is further enhanced by the clean lines of the exterior and the aggressive stance of the vehicle. The drivetrain is engineered for maximum performance, with a target output of 380 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque at the wheels. This power is delivered through a meticulously tuned engine and a precise gearbox. To support this enhanced performance, Enriquez has outfitted the NSX with KW Clubsport coil-overs, titanium chassis bracing, and Volk Racing TE37 wheels. The tires are Toyo Proxes R888R, renowned for their exceptional grip in track conditions. Stopping power is provided by StopTech brakes with Hawk pads, a combination favored by professional racers for its consistent performance under heavy use. A large Voltex Type 4/5 GT wing ensures high-speed stability on the track, adding to the car’s aerodynamic profile. Although the car has evolved further since its 2020 magazine feature, now sporting white wheels and a subtler front spoiler, Enriquez’s NSX remains a striking build that serves as a showcase for the miraculous amount of precision and craftsmanship that go into creating these amazing vehicles. The NSX’s evolution from a comfortable grand tourer to a dedicated race car exemplifies the dedication of Honda enthusiasts who push the boundaries of what’s possible. The N-BOX: An Unexpected Icon of Japanese Kei Culture The Honda N-BOX represents one of the many kei cars (light automobiles) the brand has produced over the years. These small, efficient vehicles are designed to meet strict, Japanese-mandated size and engine regulations. Even the largest kei cars remain smaller than a Mazda Miata, with displacement capped at approximately 660cc. In a global market increasingly focused on power and speed, the presence of the N-BOX at Wekfest New Jersey underscores the diversity and creativity that define the event. This particular N-BOX fully embraces its minivan-inspired form, offering a distinctive blend of practicality and character. Finished in the sportier Custom trim, it features an assertive front fascia and a boxy silhouette reminiscent of Honda’s earlier Element. A standout detail is its license plate reading “K24 NA.” Whether or not the owner truly managed to stuff a version of Honda’s 2.4-liter K24 inline-four engine, one nearly four times larger than the stock N-BOX powertrain, under its hood remains unknown, but the car stood out as a uniquely Japanese creation showcased on American soil.
The N-BOX is a fascinating example of how tuners adapt Japanese domestic market vehicles to suit local tastes and performance demands. The ingenuity required to fit a larger engine into such a compact chassis highlights the dedication of the owner and the versatility of the Honda platform. Vehicles like this N-BOX remind us that Wekfest is not just about high-powered engines and flashy exterior modifications; it’s also about celebrating the cultural diversity and automotive ingenuity of the JDM community. Alongside the kei car, other unexpected builds included a lowered Element with a blue interior and an oversized rear speaker, as well as a pair of modified Acura MDXs. These vehicles underscored the broad range of modified Honda and Acura models on display, each representing a unique expression of the owner’s passion and creativity. Auto Salon Contender: The Pinnacle of S2000 Precision The Honda S2000, celebrated as one of Honda’s most iconic sports cars, was a dominant presence at Wekfest New Jersey 2026. This generation of S2000 exemplifies precision and purpose, showcasing a build executed with remarkable attention to detail. The S2000, known for its high-revving F22C1 engine, precise handling, and classic convertible design, continues to be a favorite among automotive enthusiasts worldwide. Under the hood, its F22 engine is enhanced with a curated selection of components from Mugen, ASM, and HKS, crowned by a distinctive Jun valve cover. These parts are considered some of the most sought-after modifications in the S2000 community, each representing a commitment to performance and quality. The meticulous approach continues beyond the engine bay. The car rides on Advan wheels and features Renegade brakes, a Voltex rear wing, and an ASM steering wheel, each element chosen to balance performance and aesthetics. Among the many S2000s on display at Wekfest 2025, this example stood out as the most complete and cohesive build. It is a machine that would feel equally at home on a Tokyo Auto Salon display stand as it would be carving up a circuit. The S2000’s evolution over the years has been a testament to its versatility, with owners transforming it from a street-legal roadster into a dedicated track weapon. The integration of Mugen and ASM components highlights the owner’s dedication to using the best available parts to enhance performance and aesthetics. Other visual highlights included scale model cars displayed in front of their full-size counterparts and a liveried-up Motocompacto electric scooter parked beside a sixth-generation Civic (that sixth gen came complete with an original 1960s Honda emblem on its rear, the same wide-top “H” design that inspired the brand’s new 0 Series EV logo). These small details reflect the depth and creativity of the Wekfest community, where even the smallest components are given the same attention as the most significant modifications. Civic Hatchback, Prelude Heart: A Tribute to Honda’s Engineering Legacy Among all the wild builds and glowing LEDs, one humble silver Civic stood out, not for its looks but for what was under the hood: the only H-series engine we saw at the show. The H-series, often overshadowed by the legendary B-series, was Honda’s torquey workhorse that powered cars like the Prelude Type S and Accord Euro R. Seeing one swapped into a modest EG generation Civic hatchback was rare and refreshing. This particular Honda Civic build showcases a blend of nostalgia and performance engineering. The owner has had this EG for over two decades, and the H22 motor you see has also resided in it for almost the exact same amount of time. This H22-swapped Civic is a build that wasn’t trying to be flashy, just pure function instead. It represents a commitment to preserving Honda’s engineering legacy while pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.
The presence of this H22 Civic at Wekfest 2026 underscores the enduring appeal of Honda’s smaller displacement engines. While many tuners focus on larger engines with forced induction, the H-series offers a unique blend of power and efficiency that remains unmatched. This build is a testament to the ingenuity of the Honda tuning community, where even the most obscure components are given new life in the hands of
