N1405012_dog is so smart. #rescue #rescueanimals #dog #cat #animals #fyp_part2 The 2027 Kia Telluride Hybrid vs. 2026 Hyundai Palisade Hybrid: A Tale of Two Siblings In the highly competitive segment of three-row hybrid SUVs, the Kia Telluride and the Hyundai Palisade stand out as two compelling yet distinct options. These closely related vehicles share a common architecture, powertrain, and technological foundation, yet they have been engineered to offer subtly different experiences for drivers and passengers. As we move through 2026 and into the next model year, it is worth exploring how these two stalwarts of the SUV market continue to evolve and differentiate themselves to meet the diverse needs of modern families. Both the Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade have established themselves as leaders in their respective classes. The Telluride, in particular, made a significant impact when it was first introduced, earning the prestigious MotorTrend SUV of the Year award in its inaugural year. The Palisade has consistently ranked among the top contenders, and following its midcycle update, we recognized it as one of the best three-row SUVs available. To provide a comprehensive comparison, we conducted an in-depth evaluation of the hybrid variants of these vehicles. Our assessment focused on key aspects such as passenger space across all three rows, ease of access to the third row, and the integration of infotainment and advanced driver-assistance systems. While the core components of these SUVs are shared, the subtle engineering nuances and design choices contribute to a noticeable divergence in driving dynamics and overall user experience.
Spoiler alert: the competition between the Telluride and the Palisade is incredibly tight. Both Kia and Hyundai have delivered exceptional vehicles, and choosing one over the other is not a straightforward decision. However, at MotorTrend, we don’t settle for ties. After thorough analysis, one model ultimately stands out. As you can imagine, this was not an easy determination. Context: The Foundation of these SUVs For this comparison, we have lined up the 2026 Hyundai Palisade Hybrid Calligraphy AWD against the 2027 Kia Telluride Hybrid SX-Prestige AWD. These models represent the pinnacle of their respective lineups. Both are powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine working in conjunction with two electric motors, producing a combined output of 329 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque. The power is channeled through a six-speed automatic transmission to all-wheel drive. The Hyundai Palisade is positioned at approximately $60,380, while the Kia Telluride is slightly more affordable at around $58,135. Neither vehicle is what one would consider budget-friendly, but in the current market landscape, a three-row hybrid SUV with a price point around $60,000 is a realistic consideration for many buyers. An important distinction between the two is their place of manufacture: the Telluride is produced in West Point, Georgia, whereas the Palisade is imported from Ulsan, South Korea. Front Row Experiences: A Matter of Aesthetics and Ergonomics Although these SUVs share much of their underlying structure, the cabins reveal significant differences, particularly in the front row. The Kia Telluride features a design that leans into a midcentury modern aesthetic, creating a sense of minimalism and elegance. The quality of materials throughout the cabin is exceptional. The leather used feels supple, the Alcantara headliner rivals what one might expect in a luxury vehicle like a Bentley, and the wood-look trim integrated into the dashboard and center console conveys a genuine sense of premium craftsmanship. However, one drawback of the Telluride’s interior design is its reliance on touch-sensitive controls. The center console features only four physical buttons for climate control, with the remaining HVAC functions housed on a panel situated between the driver’s instrument cluster display and the infotainment screen. This placement results in a less ergonomic experience, as the controls are partially obscured by the steering wheel from the driver’s perspective and require a considerable reach for front-seat passengers. While this design choice attempts to utilize otherwise unoccupied space, it ultimately proves to be less practical than a more traditional approach. In contrast, the Hyundai Palisade’s interior feels more welcoming and intuitive. All the climate control functions are grouped together in one easily accessible location for both the driver and front passenger. While the capacitive touch controls may appear slightly crowded, this arrangement is still preferable to the Kia’s design. The Palisade also benefits from both volume and tuning knobs, a feature that the Telluride lacks. Both interiors offer three conveniently located USB-C ports. However, the Telluride includes a second wireless charging pad in addition to the one found in the Palisade. The Hyundai counters with an innovative feature: a UV-C sterilization compartment located in the center console that can sanitize phones, keys, and wallets in approximately 10 minutes—a functionality that the Kia does not offer. Rear Seat Comfort: Balancing Space and Flexibility Both of our test vehicles, being hybrid variants, came equipped with second-row captain’s chairs, resulting in a total seating capacity of seven passengers. Passenger comfort is excellent in either SUV, and both provide conveniently placed USB ports on the backs of the front seats for easy access. The panoramic sunroofs in both models further enhance the cabin’s brightness and create a sense of spaciousness. Accessing the third row is relatively easy in both the Telluride and Palisade, thanks to second-row seats that slide forward at the touch of a button. The opening between the C-pillar and the seat is sufficiently wide to accommodate most adults squeezing through. Once in the third row, legroom is respectable. However, the Palisade holds a distinct advantage as its third row can recline and slide forward or backward. This flexibility, while potentially reducing cargo space when utilized, offers a noticeable difference in comfort, especially for adults during long journeys when the cargo area is not fully occupied. The Hyundai Palisade is also the only vehicle in this comparison equipped with a power-folding third row, a feature that proves particularly useful when lifting or lowering the seats while carrying luggage. In the Kia Telluride, a strap releases the latch to fold the seat, and this same strap must be used to pull the seat back up until it locks into place. While not particularly difficult, the manual operation lacks the convenience of a button press. One significant concern regarding this convenience is the ongoing stop-sale and recall initiated by the tragic passing of a child. Hyundai has recalled Palisades equipped with power second- and third-row seats, and Kia has subsequently recalled Tellurides equipped with powered second-row seats.
Advanced Cabin Technology Upon closer examination of their infotainment systems, it becomes difficult to spot any significant differences. Both SUVs share essentially the same technology, with only a few unique features to differentiate them. The Kia Telluride offers built-in streaming applications such as YouTube, Disney+, and live TV on its main screen, while the Hyundai Palisade counters with an integrated front and rear dashcam. Both SUVs feature a dual 12.3-inch display configuration, with one screen dedicated to the driver and the other for infotainment. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with built-in navigation and a head-up display. Additionally, both vehicles are equipped with seven USB-C ports distributed across all three rows, massaging front seats, and a digital key feature. While the Kia Telluride holds a slight edge in the technology department, largely due to its ability to stream video on the infotainment screen while parked, some buyers may find the Palisade’s integrated dashcam to be more practical and valuable. Kia’s data subscription service for such functionality typically costs around $40 per month. Ultimately, both infotainment systems are fundamentally similar, and the choice comes down to individual preferences. Safety Features: A Shared Emphasis on Driver Assistance Hyundai and Kia have made substantial progress in the development of advanced driver-assistance systems. In both SUVs, adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist performed flawlessly during our testing, maintaining the vehicles’ position in their lanes while ensuring safe, but not overly conservative, distances from traffic ahead on the highway. Because these vehicles share safety technologies, their behavior on the road is virtually identical. Throughout our test drives, we did not observe any meaningful differences in how the systems performed, but we did appreciate their smooth execution and the ease with which both adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist can be activated. Impressive Hybrid Fuel Economy Despite sharing the same powertrain, the Kia Telluride exhibits slightly better fuel efficiency than the Hyundai Palisade. The Kia is rated at 30 mpg in the city, 32 mpg on the highway, and 31 mpg combined, whereas the Palisade achieves 29 mpg in the city, 30 mpg on the highway, and 29 mpg combined. This difference is almost certainly attributable to wheel size, as the Palisade is fitted with 21-inch wheels while the Telluride uses 20-inch wheels. Driving Dynamics: Finding the Personality Within the Platform One area where the Kia and Hyundai begin to diverge (beyond their styling) is in how they drive. Each brand has its own engineering team, and they have tuned these SUVs in slightly different ways to help them achieve distinct personalities. We found that the Hyundai Palisade offers a slightly smoother ride, exhibiting more composure over rough pavement. The difference was most noticeable on the uneven, undulating roads of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Where the Palisade glides with ease, the Telluride allows more of the road’s imperfections to intrude into the cabin. The Kia Telluride’s steering also requires slightly more effort off-center. As noted by one of our test drivers, it lacked the smooth, confidence-inspiring torque buildup of the Palisade. While still perfectly competent for the class, a back-to-back comparison reveals the Palisade’s more natural steering feel.
Given that these SUVs share the
