For this in-depth comparison, we assembled the 2026 Hyundai Palisade Hybrid Calligraphy AWD and the 2027 Kia Telluride Hybrid SX-Prestige AWD. These models represent the zenith of their respective lineups, powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and two electric motors that together deliver 329 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque. This power is managed by a six-speed automatic transmission and delivered to all four wheels.
The Palisade is priced at $60,625, while the Kia is marginally more affordable at $60,210. While neither is a budget option, in today’s U.S. automotive climate, a three-row hybrid SUV priced at around $60,000 is an increasingly reasonable consideration for discerning consumers. It is crucial to note a significant geographical distinction: the Telluride is manufactured in West Point, Georgia, whereas the Palisade is imported from Ulsan, South Korea. This sourcing difference can influence perception for some buyers, though both vehicles embody high standards of quality and craftsmanship.

However, a significant critique of the Telluride’s interior is its reliance on tactile, physical controls. The center console features only four buttons dedicated to the climate control system, with the remaining HVAC functions relegated to a panel located between the driver’s instrument cluster and the infotainment screen. This placement renders the controls awkward to operate, as they are partially obstructed by the steering wheel from the driver’s perspective and require a considerable reach for the front passenger. While it is a clever use of previously underutilized space, it is not the most practical configuration for everyday driving in the U.S. market.
In contrast, the Palisade’s interior feels decidedly more welcoming. Features Editor Christian Seabaugh aptly described the cabin as “less of an aircraft cockpit and more of a home’s living room. The design is distinctive, special, and wholly unique. It is the kind of design that makes the Palisade feel like an escape from the outside world, not a part of the problem.” His assessment is accurate. The Palisade moves away from minimalism toward a warmer, more contemporary interpretation of luxury.
The ergonomic efficiency of the Palisade’s cabin is a key factor in its welcoming atmosphere. All HVAC controls are consolidated in a single, intuitive location, easily accessible to both the driver and front passenger. While the capacitive touch controls may feel slightly cramped initially, this setup is ultimately preferable to the Kia’s bifurcated approach. Furthermore, the Palisade features both volume and tuning knobs, whereas the Telluride provides only the former—a minor detail that contributes to a more refined driving experience.
Both interiors offer three USB-C ports conveniently placed for passengers, but the Telluride enhances convenience with a second wireless charging pad in addition to the Palisade’s standard unit. The Hyundai counters with a unique feature: a UV-C sterilization compartment in the center console designed to sanitize phones, keys, or wallets in approximately 10 minutes. This is a distinct offering that the Kia does not match.

Accessing the third row is straightforward in both the Telluride and Palisade, facilitated by second-row seats that slide forward at the touch of a button. The aperture between the C-pillar and the seat is sufficiently wide for most adults to maneuver through. Once seated, legroom is ample. The Palisade, however, holds a clear advantage due to its third-row reclining and sliding capabilities. This flexibility may slightly reduce cargo capacity in certain configurations but significantly boosts passenger comfort, especially during longer journeys when the cargo area is not at full capacity.
The Palisade is also the only model with a power-folding third row, a convenience that proves invaluable when raising or lowering the seats while juggling multiple items. In the Telluride, a strap releases the latch, and the same strap must be used to pull the seat back up until it locks into place. While not difficult, we much prefer the effortless convenience of a power button. One critical caveat regarding convenience: the power seats have recently been the subject of a stop-sale and recall following the tragic death of a child. Hyundai has issued a recall for Palisades equipped with powered second- and third-row seats, and Kia has subsequently recalled Tellurides featuring powered second-row seats. While both brands have taken action to address the issue, this incident raises significant safety concerns that potential buyers must consider.
