N2005035_I Rescued a Baby Wolf #wolf #rescue #puppy #wholesome The Evolution of the Honda Scene at Wekfest USA 2026 Two years following my inaugural immersion into Wekfest USA, I recently returned to experience another remarkable convergence of iconic Japanese performance vehicles that have defined this long-standing exhibition. Established by Kenneth Li in 2008, Wekfest has ascended to become a fundamental institution within the global tuning community, renowned for its concentration on JDM and import culture and for consistently attracting some of the country’s most exceptional builds.
This year’s engagement in Edison, New Jersey, signaled a notable transition in the show’s composition. Hondas were strikingly predominant on the floor. For every Toyota, Nissan, or Porsche present, there seemed to be several Hondas, each illustrating the extensive diversity and depth of the brand’s modification ecosystem. As a lifelong Honda admirer, I found myself in familiar territory. Below is an overview of some of the standout examples that captured the attention of attendees and myself at Wekfest USA 2026, each representing the passion and precision that continue to characterize this event. The Solitary NSX: King of the Hondas This 1992 Acura NSX, owned by Marby Enriquez since 2014, embodies the evolution of Honda’s emblematic mid-engine sports car into a specialized track weapon. After initially experiencing the NSX in its factory state, Enriquez undertook a complete overhaul aimed at elevating both performance and aesthetic presence. The vehicle now sports a striking blue wrap and features a classic Comptech Whipple supercharger, Walbro 255 fuel pump, and a snorkel intake inspired by the Japan-exclusive NSX-R GT. A carbon-fiber hood and functional scoop immediately command attention, channeling cool air directly into the engine bay. The vehicle registered 380 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque at the wheels, supported by KW Clubsport coil-overs, titanium chassis bracing, Volk Racing TE37 wheels, Toyo Proxes R888R tires, and StopTech brakes with Hawk pads. A large Voltex Type 4/5 GT wing ensures high-speed stability on the track. Although the car has undergone further development since its 2020 magazine feature (now featuring white wheels and a more discreet front spoiler), Enriquez’s NSX is a striking creation that showcases the extraordinary level of precision and craftsmanship involved in crafting these remarkable automobiles. The N-BOX, An Unexpected Star The Honda N-BOX represents one of the numerous kei cars the marque has produced throughout its history—compact, efficient vehicles engineered to meet strict Japanese size and engine regulations. Even the largest kei cars remain smaller than a Mazda Miata, with displacement typically capped at approximately 660cc. This specific N-BOX fully embraces its minivan-style form, offering a distinctive fusion of utility and character. Finished in the sportier Custom trim, it features an aggressive front end and a boxy profile reminiscent of Honda’s earlier Element. A notable detail is its license plate displaying “K24 NA.” Whether the owner actually succeeded in fitting a variation of Honda’s 2.4-liter K24 inline-four engine, nearly four times the size of the stock N-BOX powertrain, under its hood remains uncertain, but the car stood out as a uniquely Japanese creation exhibited on American soil. Vehicles such as this N-BOX highlight the variety and creativity that define Wekfest. Alongside the kei car were other surprising builds, including a lowered Element with a blue interior and an oversized rear speaker, as well as a pair of modified Acura MDXs, uncommon sights that underscored the broad spectrum of modified models on display. Auto Salon Contender This S2000 exemplifies precision and purpose, showcasing a build executed with remarkable attention to detail. Under the hood, its F22 engine is enhanced with a curated selection of components from Mugen, ASM, and HKS, topped by a distinctive Jun valve cover.
The meticulous approach continues beyond the engine bay. The car rides on Advan wheels and features Renegade brakes, a Voltex rear wing, and an ASM steering wheel, each element chosen to balance performance and aesthetics. Among the many S2000s featured at Wekfest 2026, this example stood out as the most complete and cohesive build, a machine that would feel equally at home on a Tokyo Auto Salon display stand as it would be carving up a circuit. Other visual highlights included scale model cars displayed in front of their full-size counterparts and a liveried-up Motocompacto electric scooter parked beside a sixth-generation Civic (that sixth gen came complete with an original 1960s Honda emblem on its rear, the same wide-top “H” design that inspired the brand’s new 0 Series EV logo). Civic Hatchback, Prelude Heart Amidst all the extravagant builds and glowing LEDs, one humble silver Civic commanded attention, not for its appearance but for its powertrain: the only H-series engine observed at the show. The H-series, frequently overshadowed by the legendary B-series, was Honda’s torquey workhorse that powered vehicles like the Prelude Type S and Accord Euro R. Discovering one swapped into a modest EG generation Civic hatchback was rare and refreshing. The proprietor of this Civic has maintained possession of this EG for over two decades, and the H22 motor currently fitted has also been installed for nearly the same duration. This build was not striving for flash, but rather pure function. The Unicorn And finally, the crown jewel of the Honda offerings at the show. Positioned near the far end of the Wekfest floor was a pristine FD2 Civic Type R in Championship White, but positioned alongside it was something even rarer: the Mugen RR. Regarded as the ultimate Type R, all 300 Mugen RR units were sold out within approximately 10 minutes, with 299 remaining in Japan and a single car exported to Malaysia. This specimen was subsequently imported to the U.S. and features Mugen camshafts, ECU tuning, and an upgraded exhaust system, bringing the power output to 237 hp. Carbon-fiber bumpers, an aluminum hood, and the signature 18-inch Mugen wheels reduce weight and enhance performance across the board. The Mugen RR stands as a true masterpiece, embodying Honda’s engineering dedication. Juxtaposed next to the FD2, the distinction becomes apparent: While the FD2 may captivate with its visual appeal, the Mugen RR embodies the essence of Mugen’s performance philosophy. It would be impossible to cover every standout Honda from Wekfest in a single narrative, but you can explore some additional exceptional examples that characterized this year’s New Jersey gathering in the gallery below.
