N1805028_Farmers are rescue child langoor net in a farm return to..._part2 The Fix Is in for the 2026 Hyundai Palisade’s Rear-Seat Recall
After weeks of intense engineering development, Hyundai has finally released a comprehensive solution for the well-publicized rear-seat issues affecting certain trims of the 2026 Palisade. This strategic initiative addresses critical passenger detection and unintentional activation vulnerabilities. Justin BannerWriterApril 08, 2026 001 2026 Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy In late March, the automotive industry was rocked by the news of a significant recall involving the 2026 Hyundai Palisade and select trims of the 2027 Kia Telluride Hybrid SX Prestige and X-Line SX Prestige with the Executive package. The issue centered on the powered second- and third-row seating systems, specifically the ability of occupant sensors to properly detect passengers and objects. Tragically, this lapse in engineering resulted in one fatality and four minor injuries before Hyundai and Kia could issue a permanent fix. Today, Hyundai has confirmed that a robust software revision is ready. The solution is available via over-the-air (OTA) updates for subscribers with an active Bluelink subscription, or owners can visit a local dealership to have the fix applied in person. This marks a critical step in restoring confidence in the Palisade’s advanced seating technology, a key selling point in the highly competitive midsize three-row SUV market. As previously reported, Hyundai had initially deployed a temporary over-the-air update to reprogram the powered rear-seat software. While this provided a preliminary safeguard against injury, it was not intended as a final, certified solution. As of April 3, Hyundai has rolled out a permanent software fix that addresses suffocation and other injuries by addressing the unintentional activation of the folding and tilt (referred to as “walk-in” by Hyundai) functions of the powered second- and third-row seats. The comprehensive software update for the powered seats fundamentally alters how the folding and tilt functions are activated and restricted. It also significantly enhances occupant and object detection capabilities.
Engineering Enhancements: A Detailed Look First, the folding and stowing controls are completely disabled from being accessed through the infotainment system. This eliminates the risk of accidental activation during connectivity or screen navigation. Second, the seat and cargo area switches have been updated to require a press-and-hold operation. They no longer permit one-touch folding, significantly reducing the possibility of inadvertent activation by children or objects. Third, the second-row tilt function now also requires holding the button. However, the one-touch function remains available for the return command, ensuring convenience without compromising safety. You will also need to press and hold the button for seat-back reclining during the return operation. Finally, the software has been updated to introduce more sophisticated seat logic. The system is now able to detect a person or object in the seat and immediately stop the folding and tilting functions from fully occurring. Additionally, to utilize the fold-flat seat stowage function, the liftgate must be open, preventing accidental stowage of objects or passengers during cargo loading. What About the Kia Telluride Recall? As of this moment, Kia has not officially released a software update for its powered second-row seats on the 2027 Telluride Hybrid SX Prestige and the X-Line SX Prestige with the Executive package. We have contacted Kia for more information and will update this story when we receive a response. For now, owners of those Tellurides should closely monitor second-row occupancy when they want to use the tilt and folding functions. Get This Recall Done ASAP With any recall action, the software update will be free of charge to owners of affected Hyundai Palisades. For owners who need to visit a dealer to receive the update, that dealer will also be able to advise them on the soonest they can have this repair completed. Dealers should also be able to assist with rental and/or transportation while the vehicle is being fixed, but affected customers will want to read up on the rental reimbursement agreement Hyundai has for recall repairs.
